IN REPRINTING THE BOOK
‘Bengal Today’ is the only book published by Shere- bangla A. K Fuzlul Huq in 1944 which is now hardly available. The present attempt is possibly the first reprint of the book after its original publication.
Chakhar (district Bakerganj), the birthplace of Sherebangla has come up in recent years as a small beautiful township on a picturesque rural setting. Visitors in large numbers from all over the country come here with all passions and emotions to acquaint them- selves with the village home of Sherebangla, his child- hood associations and surroundings and also to see his favourite College and other Institutions which bear his sweet memory today. Such visitors seem to be very keen to know all about him and often show their eagerness for his famous book, ‘Bengal Today’ which contains a series of his spirited letters written to the then British Governor of Bengal, Sir John Arthur Herbert at the time when his difference as Chief Minister with the Governor reached the climax in 1942-43.
Let this reprint serve as his souvenir to his dear countrymen.
